Falseria Weaving & Symbolism

The fabric of this timeless bag was handwoven on the treadle loom using the Falseria technique. This technique was introduced with the Spanish in the 1500’s. Traditional designs from backstrap weaving were reinterpreted into the falseria technique. That is why it’s called falseria = false brocade. To produce one meter of fabric, the artisan needs one day of part time work (4h).

The diamond pattern is a fundamental part of our bag collection. As one of the most important symbols of Mayan textile art, the diamond embodies the four corners of the universe, the four corners of the earth and contains in its center the heart of the community.
