Brocade weaving

Our elegant new wool tote bags are made on the traditional backstrap loom. Backstrap weaving is the most complex and time consuming form of weaving that exists, and is normally used to create the torso section of Mayan women’s traditional “huipil” outfit.

We have reduced the high production time and complexity of this weaving technique by combining elegant patterns with new wool yarns. The simple textile designs help to achieve a particularly high impact, because the majority of our weavers have mastered this weaving technique. For the production of one new wool panel our weavers need 5 part-time (4h) working days. Due to the unique handmade process each product may vary slightly.
